Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Art Programs and Exhibits Graduate Assistant is responsible for managing the Titan Student Union’s exhibition spaces, including the Center and Atrium Galleries. In this role, the Graduate Assistant will curate the semesterly student art competition and assist with the curation of other exhibitions. They will work close with the Events and Programs Supervisor to oversee the permanent art collection and support the planning and execution of a diverse range or exhibitions. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will coordinate engaging, inclusive programming that encourages creative expression and community involvement. This includes organizing and facilitating Drop-In Art Workshops in the Grand Stairs Studio, offering students a hands-on opportunity to explore and develop their artistic interests in a welcoming environment.

Major Duties:
•    Develop relationships with artists, exhibitors, and university departments to schedule exhibitions. 
•    Oversee exhibitions from booking to closing, coordinating installation, de-installation, and monitoring displays throughout the exhibition period. 
•    Report on exhibition activities and status to the Events and Programs Supervisor. 
•    Work with ASI Marketing and Design to maintain current and accurate web content and develop promotional materials. 
•    Assist in maintaining accurate records related to exhibits and the permanent art collection, ensuring proper inventory tracking and organization of digital images.
•    Ensure the permanent art collection is displayed properly and maintained in excellent condition, addressing any repairs or updates as needed. 
•    Ensure exhibition spaces are presentable, collaborating with appropriate departments to update lighting, paint, patch, and maintain cleanliness.
•    Oversee student art show including promotion, submissions, recruiting judges, installation and curation of pieces, and the opening reception. 
•    Oversee the care and handling of artwork
•    Collaborate with the studio instructors to create a workshop calendar for each semester offering a diverse range of creative classes. 
•    Assist in planning and organizing the Drop-In Art workshops, including scheduling sessions, securing materials, and coordinating instructors. 
•    Track attendance for all Drop-In Art workshops and analyze data to assess participation 
•    Gather and evaluate feedback from workshop participants to enhance future offerings
•    Assist studio instructors during events and engage in tabling outreach opportunities to promote the Art Programs and Exhibits department.  
•    Handle correspondence and daily administrative tasks as needed
•    Complete other related tasks or projects as assigned by supervisor

Education, Work Experience Requirements and Abilities

Education:
•    Enrollment in a graduate program in Art, Art History, Arts Administration, Museum Studies, Fine Arts or a related field. 

Experience: 
•    Customer Service experience recommended.
•    Have proven experience working cooperatively as part of a team.

Knowledge and Abilities:
•    Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service. 
•    Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments and projects. Knowledge of proper techniques for handing and displaying artwork
•    Ability to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and projects efficiently
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with artists, exhibitors, and participants
•    Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with various departments
•    Model, promote, and consistently enforce CSUF, ASI and TSU policies.


Additional Requirements: 

Physical Requirements
•    Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
•    Ability to lift and carry artwork, materials, and equipment (typically 25-50 pounds) during installation and de-installation.
•    Must be available for occasional evening, night and weekend shifts for special events or projects. 
•    Must be open to adjusting work hours based on department needs.
