The TYSC Camp Counselor will support ASI’s DEI plan in all programming, services, and interactions.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under limited supervision, Camp Counselors engage campers in daily activities, act as role models, and carry out the day-to-day operations of the camp.
  • Plans, leads, and implements camp programs for children ages 4 -18 years old.
  • Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
  • Organizes and leads various small and large group activities as appropriate for each period and maintains an organized storage space.
  • Manage personal time off by camp policy.
  • Reporting and recording details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to parents and camp staff.
  • Responsible for promoting a safe and fun environment for campers by adhering to and enforcing the policies and procedures of the University, the Associated Students, CSUF, Inc., and ASI Titan Recreation.
  • Clerical duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Work Experience Requirements, and Abilities:

Education:

  • Must be enrolled in or accepted to California State University Fullerton.

Experience:

  • Working with children in leading related activities to the TYSC Program.
  • The following sports and leisure activities may be offered but are not limited to:
    • Arts & Crafts, soccer, badminton, martial arts, softball/baseball, tennis, dance, basketball, flag football, track & field, bowling, racquetball, skill development, volleyball, and more!

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Must love working with and mentoring children.
  • Must be committed, punctual, and patient.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and interests.

Additional Requirements:

Typical Mental Requirements: 

  • Patience, concentration, and understanding for long periods.

Typical Physical Requirements:

  • Must be willing to participate in and lead various sports and be on your feet for long periods.
  • Shifts are approximately 8 hours a day, five days a week.

 

Special Requirements

  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED Certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Must be willing to participate in various sports/activities.
  • Required to be a General Mandated Reporter and sign the ASI General Mandated Reporter Form.
  • Upon hiring, criminal background investigation and fingerprint screening will be completed.
  • Must fulfill responsibilities of a CA Mandated Reporter of Child Abuse.
  • Must provide completed health screen within 30 days of employment.
