Position Title: Intramural Sports Official 

 

Hourly Compensation: $15.50 

 

Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive, yet safe, environment. Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the complete game control of all officiated Intramural contests which includes: managing player and spectators on the field/court, enforce established rule during intramural competitions, enforce and evaluate sportsmanship of intramural teams and participants, etc.
• Officiate Intramural contests.
• Assist with pre and post-game logistics and administrative functions.
• Responsible for preparing accident, missing item and incident reports as required, and contacting appropriate University personnel in case of emergencies   within the necessary time frame.
• Assist staff with field/court setup and cleanup.
• Take out and bring in all equipment needed for sport/activity.
• Communicate game information to other officials, staff and team captains.
• Provide positive public relations, program promotion, and policy education to participants (Recruiting).
• Verify participant eligibility, ensure the correct attire of each participant and ensure proper use of equipment.
• Must maintain strict adherence to safety procedures and attend all safety meetings scheduled.
• Attend all officials training sessions and demonstrate proficiency in understanding of rules and officiating.
• Provide a friendly, upbeat and customer service oriented environment at all times.
• Call Intramural contests with complete honesty and integrity.
• Help patrons learn more about the sport they are participating in.
• Compliance in evaluation process.
• Report results and scores of intramural competition to staff.
• Inventory intramural/event equipment.
• Must attend all mandatory meetings.
• Handle on site disputes involving player conflict and rule interpretation.
• Referee debriefing before, halftime, and end of game.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education, Work Experience Requirements and Abilities:


Education:
• Must be enrolled in or accepted to California State University Fullerton.


Experience:
• Previous officiating experience or certification.


Knowledge and Abilities:
• Knowledge of game and rules and Intramural Policies.
• Must be able to maintain strict adherence to all policies and procedures
• Ability to officiate multiple Intramural Sports.
• Must be able to be on time, prepared to work and adhere to department dress code.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Know, apply, and enforce rules for assigned sport/activity.
• Demonstrates good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
• Displays a positive attitude with customers, coworkers and toward work.
• Demonstrates the ability to help others adapt to new situations.
• Must be able to accept instruction/constructive criticism from supervisor.
• Must be able to recover from and continue to work successfully following disappointments, setbacks, or mistakes.
• Must be able to work through bad experiences by assessing what caused them, what can be done to repair them and how to avoid them in the future.
• Must be able to keep an accurate record of hours worked by clocking in and out correctly.

Typical Mental Requirements:
• Patience, concentration, and understanding for long periods of time.


Typical Physical Requirements:
• Must be physically able to work outdoors and stand for long periods of time at minimum 6 hours per day.
• Must be able to safely carry and lift up to 50 lbs.

Special Requirements
• Participation in Campus Recreation Intramural training clinic.
• Grade of 85% or higher in written report officiating test.
• Average rating of “4” or higher on IM Officials performance evaluation.
• Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED Certification within 30 days of employment.
• Required to be a Limited Mandatory Reporter and sign ASI Limited Mandatory Reporter Form.
