, ,Job Title: Communications Student Assistant
Department: Marketing, Communication, and Design
Reports to: Communications Specialist
Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour
Hours: This is a part-time (20 hours/week), position with expected hours to be worked
during business hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Job Summary: Under supervision of the Communications Specialist, the Communications
Student Assistant will play a vital role in assisting with the day-to-day creation, posting,
and planning of campaigns and activities to help strengthen engagement with students,
campus, and ASI.
Essential Job Functions:
• Write for print and digital platforms, providing a distinct, cohesive brand voice and
clear content strategy for targeted audiences.
• Schedule interviews and various sources related to assigned beats
• Mark copy to indicate and correct errors in type, arrangement, grammar, punctuation,
or spelling, using standard printers' marks.
• Read corrected copies or proofs to ensure that all corrections have been made.
• Route proofs with marked corrections to authors, editors, typists, or typesetters for
correction or reprinting.
• Follow ASI style guide, especially editorial and accessibility sections.
• Provide quality, professional, friendly, and courteous customer service to everyone.
• Comfortable in social settings with peers, CSUF – ASI staff and the public.
• Participate in outreach and tabling events to communicate the ASI brand, voice and
upcoming events.
• Other duties as assigned
Customer Service & Collaboration:
• Establishes and maintains working relationships with various A.S. and University
departments
Safety:
• Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first
priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other
safety policies.
• Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid
reoccurrence.
• Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the
appropriate party or supervisor immediately
Requirements:
• Must be a currently enrolled California State University Fullerton student in good
academic standing.
• Able to demonstrate writing skills and ability through writing samples.
• Previous experience in copy editing is preferred
• Knowledge of AP Style preferred

Work Environment:
• General office environment
• Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking
around campus.
• The working environment is generally favorable
• Lighting and temperature are adequate
• There are no hazardous or unpleasant work conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
• Work is generally performed in an office environment, with standard office
equipment available
